SP leader arrested
LUCKNOW,
JAN. 27.
The police here today arrested the Samajwadi Party leader, Mohammad Ashraf, brother of the party MP, Atiq Ahmed, in connection with the murder of the Bahujan Samaj Party MLA, Raju Pal, in Allahabad on Tuesday.
The police said Ashraf was nabbed from his residence under the Hazratganj Police Station. He would be taken to Allahabad, sources said.
The MLA was shot dead along with his two supporters. His wife, in an FIR filed, alleged that the Phoolpur Samajwadi Party MP, Atiq Ahmed, and his brother, Ashraf, were behind the murder.
Raju Pal had defeated Ashraf in the recently held byelection to the Allahabad (west) Assembly, on October 13 last. The seat was vacated by Atiq after his election to the Lok Sabha.
