Lalu hits out at Vajpayee

By Our Special Correspondent

PATNA, JAN.27. The Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo (RJD) and Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, today lashed out at the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, for making "an electoral issue" out of the kidnapping of the schoolboy, Kislay, and wondered whether Mr. Vajpayee would return the lives of the infants killed in Gujarat during riots. After releasing the second list of party nominees for the second phase of elections, Mr. Prasad said the kidnapped boy was as much his son and that of the Chief Minister's.

The RJD chief said that Mr. Vajpayee should not indulge in double standards. He accused Mr. Vajpayee of indulging in politics bereft of any issue to target the ruling party with.

The RJD has decided to contest 71 seats out of the 86 going to the polls in the second phase, leaving the rest to its allies, the Congress, the Communist Party of India, and the CPI (M).
