Early mist, clear sky later
The maximum and the minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Saturday were 21.0 degrees Celsius and 8.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 20.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 9.7 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung recorded the maximum and the minimum relative humidity of 87 per cent and 50 per cent respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 90 per cent and a minimum of 47 per cent.
Suicide attempt
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when Swarn Singh, who was reportedly mentally unsound, allegedly set himself afire. He sustained 40 per cent burn injuries and was taken to Deen Dyal Upadhyaya Hospital where his condition is stated to be serious bus stable. The local police have registered a case of attempted suicide and are investigating.
Sex racket busted
Acting on a tip-off that Rajiv Kumar had been running a prostitution racket in the garb of Yuro Friendship Club, the Crime Branch sent a decoy to strike a deal. Soon after the deal was fixed for Rs. 5,000, the police arrested Rajiv and two women. During interrogation, Rajiv revealed that he ran a placement agency at Buddh Vihar but to make quick money, he got initiated into prostitution business about two months ago.
Pickpockets held
The accused have been identified as Dharamraj, Heera and Manju. They disclosed that they had stolen the purse of a passenger onboard a bus plying on route No. 106, which contained Rs. 4,500. During interrogation, Dharamraj disclosed that he had been snatching purses for the past four years. Efforts are on to nab his other accomplices.
Twin homams
The Samaj said the homams (havans) are being conducted for the health and prosperity of the population. The Vedic rituals will be conducted by six learned "birhspathis''. The havans will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 12 noon.
