THRISSUR FEB. 3. The Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) Teachers' Forum today claimed that the Government had sanctioned the grant for the university for paying salaries to teachers and a section of the staff. The university was unable to pay the salary of teachers and the staff for January as the Finance Department had withheld the grant following the order of the Principal Secretary of the Department, the Forum alleged in a statement here. The statement said the Government had issued the order sanctioning the grant after the university executive committee member P.P. George, MLA, discussed the issue with the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy. The forum, however, protested against the continuous withholding of the grant to the university by the Finance Department. Meanwhile, the representatives of KAU Employees' Association and KAU Employees Federation have started a fast in front of the university headquarters at Vellanikkara, near here, to protest against the withholding of the statutory grant to the university. The unions have also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Governor, R.L. Bhatia, who is also the Chancellor of the university.
