THIRUVANANTHAPUARAM, FEB. 3. The Leader of the Opposition, V. S. Achuthanandan, today denied the Finance Minister, Vakkom Purushothaman's charge that there was no reference to online lotteries in the affidavit that he had filed before the Supreme Court. However, the Finance Minister stood his ground and insisted that there was no mention of online lotteries in the affidavit and that Mr. Achuthanandan was forced to withdraw his impleading petition in the face of serious displeasure expressed by the apex court. Explaining his position, Mr. Achuthanandan alleged that the Finance Minister had misled the House on Wednesday with the claim that there was no mention of online lotteries in his affidavit. He claimed that he had spoken about the various North-Eastern State lotteries and named several lotteries which, he said, were online lotteries. He also submitted a copy of his petition to the Speaker for examination. However, the Finance Minister said that he could not find any reference to online lotteries in the affidavit and added that the names of lotteries mentioned by Mr. Achuthanandan were not of online lotteries. He also told the House that Mr. Achuthanandan was told in clear terms to withdraw his . Following this, the Opposition Leader had appealed to the court to let him intervene in the matter and that was all that he was allowed to do, Mr. Purushothaman said.
