Vijayawada
By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 9. The Vijayawada MP, Lagadapati Rajagopal, created a flutter by offering help to vegetable retailers who purchased shops in the newly established vegetable market near KBN College here on Wednesday. Responding to a representation from vegetable retailers, the MP stated that he would ask the municipal authorities to reduce the goodwill amount for the shops. Mr. Rajagopal inaugurated the vegetable market facility developed at a cost of Rs. 5.62 lakhs in 11th municipal division here on Wednesday. The Municipal Commissioner, V. Usha Rani, the Deputy Mayor, M. Subba Rao, the local corporator, Dadi Appa Rao, the standing committee chairperson, Matta Vijayakumari, the Congress corporators--Avala Maruthi, Saikam Saibaba and Sampara Ramamohana Rao--attended the inaugural function. Mr. Appa Rao wondered how the MP agreed to speak on behalf of the vegetable vendors who won the bids for the shops in an open auction. The vegetable retailers, who competed amongst themselves, made huge bids. "It is improper for them to make an appeal to the MP to use his influence to reduce the goodwill for which they made bids in the auction," Mr. Appa Rao said.
