Vijayawada
By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 9. Gaiety and religious fervour marked commencement of the annual Mary Matha festival at Gunadala, on Wednesday. The three-day religious carnival began with a holy mass conducted by the Bishop of Vijayawada, Mallavarapu Prakash, at the Gunadala Church. The fact that the commencement of the carnival coincided with the `ash Wednesday' which denotes beginning of the 40 lent days preceding the Good Friday, contributed to an unexpected increase in the crowds. Nearly 500 devotees, clad in white robes and a blue khanduva, attended the ceremonial mass.
