Madikeri
By Our Staff Correspondent
MADIKERI, FEB. 10. Amid allegations that civic works are not being taken up by the Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC), the urban local body has issued 50 work orders worth over Rs. 21 lakhs. The funds have been drawn from the grants of the 11th Finance Commission for the year 2004-05, the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Municipal Council, K. Shivalinge Gowda, told The Hindu. Tenders were invited in December last. The Municipal Council is without an elected body since July last. The Municipal Commissioner was transferred recently. The Tahsildar is now in charge of the Municipal Council. The Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, who took charge of the administration after the dissolution of the Municipal Council, has been criticised for the delay in the implementation of various civic works. The Deputy Commissioner, Srikant Valagad, has asked the Municipal Council to implement the works without delay.
