SHIMOGA, FEB. 10. Jyotikumar Sen, Senior Divisional Manager of the Udupi Division of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), said here on Wednesday that his division had been doing well in promoting its business in rural areas from where 70 per cent of its business came. Mr. Sen told presspersons here on Thursday that the Jana Raksha policy had proved to be popular in rural areas. He said that the Udupi Division of the LIC, which consisted of Udupi, Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada, Davangere, Chitradurga and Chikmagalur districts, with 32 branches, completed business of 1,91,634 policies with Rs. 1,388.69 crores as sum assured and Rs. 71.81 crores as first premium income as on January 1. He said the division had witnessed a boom in the first premium income by achieving a growth rate of 43.75 per cent over the corresponding period last year. Mr. Sen said that under the intensive revival campaign from December 15, 2004 to January 31, 2005, the division revived 20,344 policies after waiving interest of Rs. 16 lakhs. It was proposed to issue new policies on a fast-track basis.
