Hubli
By Our Special Correspondent
HUBLI, FEB. 10. Prahlad Joshi, BJP MP from Dharwad North, has expressed optimism over direct rail services being introduced from Hubli to Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai shortly. He said this would be announced in the Railway Budget. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Mr. Joshi said he had written to the Railway Minister and the Chairman of the Railway Board on the need to provide new railway connections to Hubli. Barring the inter-city and a few passenger trains, Mr. Joshi said there were no direct trains originating from Hubli to Bangalore. And there were no direct trains towards Pune and Mumbai also. Mr. Joshi said he had met the Union Minister of State for Railway, Velu, and also a member (Traffic) of the Railway Board, Aga. Mr. Aga had promised the introduction of a night train service between Hubli and Pune/Mumbai and Hubli and Bangalore. Mr. Joshi said the zonal officials of Hubli had said that the inadequate number of platforms was hindering introduction of new trains. Mr. Joshi said he had urged the Railway Ministry to ignore the reservations of the zonal officials and go ahead with the plans to provide facilities to the commuters. Mr. Joshi said if a direct train to Mumbai could not be introduced, the Railways could consider introducing a new train between Hubli and Pune. Passengers bound for Mumbai could be given a link at Pune.
