Suspended councillors' names to be forwarded to top official

By Our Staff Reporter

TUTICORIN, FEB. 10 . An emergency municipal council meeting held here this evening discussed the unruly behaviour of certain councillors at the last few meetings.

At the last meeting held on January 28, Periyasamy and Vellasamy were suspended for the subsequent two meetings and one meeting respectively, after they behaved in an unparliamentary manner.

Addressing the councillors today, chairman S Daniel Raj warned that the names of the councillors, who faced suspension, would be forwarded to the Commissioner of Municipal Administration.

``The measure has become essential to maintain the decorum of the House,'' he said.

Development works

Later, Mr. Daniel Raj told The Hindu that Rs. 80 lakh worth road repair works, spread over 20 wards, were now undertaken and the works would be completed before March 31.

This apart, he said, two fogging machines were introduced in the town to spray insecticides to control mosquitoes, which had become a menace for the residents.
