The trolley smuggling gang busted

NEW DELHI, FEB. 10. The Delhi Police have ended a racket of theft of luggage trolleys from the Indira Gandhi International Airport here with the arrest of four persons. The airport has thousands of such trolleys meant for the use of passengers who need to move their luggage around, mainly indoors. But many of the trolleys are inevitably moved out by passengers.

The Vigilance unit arrested a sub-contractor with the Airports Authority of India, Satpal (36) and his two alleged accomplices Sudama (34) and Salimuddin (27) yesterday and recovered around 2,000 trolleys from them in various stages of dismemberment. The police also arrested one Baburam (49), who allegedly used to buy the stolen trolleys, mainly made of steel..

According to the police, the accused would bring trolleys to the parking lot and load them onto a vehicle there. Once four to five trolleys were accumulated, they would take them away in the vehicle, police sources said. — PTI
