Probe sought into bribery charge against MP

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, FEB. 10. The State unit of the Janata Dal (United) has urged the Election Commission to order an inquiry into the allegations levelled by Vaijnath Patil, Janata Dal (Secular) MLA, that the industrialist M.A.M. Ramaswamy, MP, bribed MLAs to cast their votes in his favour in the Rajya Sabha election held on June 28, 2004.

In a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), a copy of which was released to the press, M.P. Nadagouda, MLC and Secretary of the Janata Dal (U) State unit, urged the CEC to take immediate action as per law against Mr. Ramaswamy.

He said the Election Commission should also take the assistance of the Central Bureau of Investigation if necessary.
