JD(U) seeks probe into bribery charge against MP

BANGALORE,
FEB. 10.
The State unit of the Janata Dal (United) today urged the Election Commission to order an inquiry into the allegations levelled by Vaijnath Patil, Janata Dal (Secular) MLA, that the industrialist M.A.M. Ramaswamy, MP, bribed MLAs to cast their votes in his favour in the Rajya Sabha election held on June 28, 2004.
In a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner, a copy of which was released to the press, M.P. Nadagouda, MLC and Secretary of the Janata Dal (U) State unit, urged the CEC to take action against Mr. Ramaswamy. He said the Election Commission should also take the assistance of the CBI.
Mr. Vaijnath Patil, alleged that the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his son, H.D. Kumaraswamy, had nominated Mr. Ramaswamy to contest Rajya Sabha elections for a consideration.
