NIZAMABAD, FEB. 10. Ajay Sankar, a second year BE student of Vijaya Rural Engineering College located on the Armoor Road here, who was kidnapped by some unidentified persons from his native town, Bodhan, last night, was set free today midnight, the Superintendent of Police, Madhusudhan Reddy, informed. Mr. Reddy, however, was disinclined to give more details as to how the student was kidnapped, who kidnapped and what was the motive behind it. Mr. Sankar, who used to commute daily between Bodhan and Nizamabad, was not seen after dropping his mother at their relative's place on his motorcycle last evening, according to a complaint lodged by his parents with the Bodhan police. Earlier, the kidnappers reportedly threatened Beerkur Devaiah, father of the kidnapped student, that if he failed to pay Rs.3 lakhs they would kill his son. The miscreants reportedly called Mr. Devaiah at least four times over the phone today. Mr. Reddy, who rushed to the town to monitor the case, said that the culprits first informed Mr. Devaiah that they resorted to kidnapping for settling a land dispute with the latter. Later, in the evening, the kidnappers told Mr. Devaiah that they kidnapped the boy for ransom, the SP said.
