Security for TDP leaders upgraded
Following the concern expressed by the Telugu Desam Party leadership, Mr. Jana Reddy directed the department to upgrade the security to former Ministers-- Kadiam Srihari and Kodela Sivaprasad-- the city Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy, and former MLA, Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy. The Minister, who was told that 917 persons were being provided security in the State, asked the officials to periodically review the same. He emphasised the importance of proper training to the police in the use of the latest gadgets.
MLA's election upheld
Workshop on health reforms
Apart from sharing the experience of the States engaged in reform process, the workshop seeks to document the content and process of reform initiatives under way in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is organising the workshop in collaboration with State Government and ASCI.
Judicial officer remanded
Mr. Rama Rao, functioning as the Assistant Public Prosecutor at the Judicial First Class Magistrate's Court, Elamanchili, was caught red-handed by ACB officials on Wednesday on the court premises while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.1,000 from one P. Sannibabu of Dorayyapalem for arguing favourably in a case.
Seven hurt in ghat road mishap
According to police, the axle of the bus, which was proceeding towards, Tirumala, broke and the vehicle hit a roadside rock. Six pilgrims were from Ongole the other was a TTD employee. In all, there were 15 passengers onboard.
New TTD EO assumes charge
The Joint Executive Officer, Muktheswar Rao, administered the oath. Mr. Sarma also took oath as ex-officio member of the TTD Trust Board.
Suicide bid at police station
Sanku was brought to the police station on Wednesday night in connection with an assault case. The police shifted him to hospital. According to the Narsapur Sub Inspector, T. Tata Rao, a case under the Section 354 (assault) of IPC was registered against Sanku following a complaint by his sister-in-law.
Case against college principal
According to the complainant, the Principal has illegally withdrawn government funds to the tune of Rs 30 lakh. He was said to have utilised the funds for payment of wages to six lecturers who were working in the college on a part-time basis since 1992 without prior permission from the government.
Weaver ends life
Nine naxalites surrender GUNTUR: Nine naxalites belonging to Julakallu village near Guthikonda surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Jitender, on Thursday. All of them were involved in four cases of destruction last month in the district, the SP told reporters. Those who surrendered were Lanjapalli Emaniyelu (25) L. Daniel (23), L. China Masaiah (27), L. Ramanji (20), L. Mariyadas (21), Ramgiri Chinna (20), Inumukkala Sudhakar (19), Inumukkala Srinu (20) and Sk. Gafeer (50).
TRS members quit posts
The Kamalapur ZPTC member, V. Sambashiva Rao, the MPP, P. Rama Devi, and seven MPTC members of the mandal announced resignations to their to the party and posts.
Drop in minimum temperatures
Minimum temperatures fell at many places in Rayalaseema and they changed a little in Telangana and Coastal Andhra. The lowest night temperature during the 24-hour period ending this morning was recorded at Arogyavaram at 13 degree Celsius. Forecast for Friday is mainly sunny weather.
Award for Anantapur girl
About 300 children from different parts of the country participated in her category. She received the award at a function organised in Ravindra Bharati on February 6.

Steps to curb road accidents
He said that road accidents could be prevented to some extent if the Motor Vehicle Inspectors prevent plying of vehicles which were not road worthy and also crack down on vehicles which were found to be overloaded.
