Rowing
CHENNAI, FEB. 10. The Tamil Nadu girls produced some exhilarating performances in the National rowing championships at Khadakvasla Lake from February 4 to 6. They garnered three silver medals, considered as the best show after the gold medal triumph in 1989-90. The highlight however was the silver by Swathy Sanjay in the 2000 metres sculls with a time of nine minutes and 44 seconds. Interestingly, Swathy was contesting in the women's open event. Then the team consisting of Gowri Adappa, Swathy Sanjay, Sneha Venkat and Vasavi Sundaram picked up the second silver in the 2000 metres coxless four with a time of eight minutes and 14 seconds. The same quartet claimed the third silver in the 500 metres sprint event clocking 1.56.88s. In the men's sculls, Irfan L. Shafi qualified for the final on his maiden appearance.
