Roddick advances

SAN JOSE, FEB. 10. Top-seeded Andy Roddick fought off a determined bid from fellow American Paul Goldstein 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday to advance to round two of the SAP Open.

Spain's Alberto Martin upset third-seeded Guillermo Canas of Argentina 6-4, 6-3 to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals at the ATP Buenos Aires.
