NEW DELHI, FEB. 18. The three-day-long 18th Garden Tourism Festival -- that showcases a variety of flora and ecological friendly leisure park -- was inaugurated by the Delhi Tourism and Education Minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely, at the Garden of Five Senses in the Capital today. Organised by the Delhi Tourism, the theme of the festival is "Innovative Gardens" and emphasis is on the newness of the Garden. The Garden of Five Senses -- situated near Mahavirsthal on the Mehrauli-Badarpur road -- gives the people a chance to touch, smell and see natural surroundings. The festival highlights colours and the classification of herbs and flowers. A collage of images -- all green -- capturing the celebration of spring are all there in full splendour. While more than 15,000 plants in different categories including chrysanthemum, pot plants, foliage, hanging baskets, dahlia and roses are being displayed, garden equipments and accessories are also on display. There are competitions in various categories of seasonal flowers and hanging baskets. The competition in the garden section has been divided into 24 categories that have 175 sections. These include dahlia varieties, tray gardens and nursery stalls. Participants have been provided space to set up models of miniature gardens. Another highlight of the festival is display of potted plants, vegetables, foliage plants like Dahlia, bonsai and kitchen garden display and fruit beds set up by chefs of five-star-hotels in the Capital. On this Saturday there is an on-the-spot painting competition for children, cultural programme by Sumermal Jain Public School's students and poetry recital on nature and environment. The last day of the festival will witness a magic show and folk dances by artists from Uttaranchal at the amphitheatre. For the convenience of the visitors, special shuttle bus services from PVR Saket to the venue and back have been introduced.
