NEW DELHI, FEB. 18. Rajani Patil, newly appointed chairperson of the Central Social Welfare Board, will visit the three tsunami-affected States next week to understand the needs of the women there. "I am told the women there need counselling as the trauma of having lost family members is immense," she told reporters after assuming charge here today. She replaces Mridula Sinha and her term will be for three years. Ms. Patil said she intended promoting the concept of Self Help Groups (SHG) among women to make them economically empowered. "The non-governmental organisations also need stricter monitoring and accountability as very little of the funds released for them actually reach the rural people," she said.
