Seminar on empowerment

NEW DELHI FEB. 18. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management and Technology, Bareilly (LBSIMT) organised a seminar on "Excellence Through Human Empowerment" at Hotel Le Meridian here on Thursday.

While the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, inaugurated the seminar, the Chairman of LBSIMT, Anil Shastri, presided over the inaugural session. While delivering his inaugural address, Mr. Joshi cherished the fond memories of working with the late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Mr. Joshi described him as a person who had basic instincts to become an excellent manager.

On the subject of the seminar, Mr. Joshi said: "Empowerment can be done by right to information like transparency in awarding contracts in Government and its functioning."

The Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sunil Dutt, who was also present on the occasion, emphasised the need to empower the youth of the country.

Roerichs' Art Club launched

NEW DELHI FEB. 18. The Delhi Education Minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely, inaugurated the Roerichs' Art Club at a function organised at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture on Ferozeshah Road here on Thursday.

After lighting the traditional lamp, Mr. Lovely acknowledged the time-tested Indo-Russian relations and stressed the need to improve bilateral cultural ties. The Roerichs' Art Club has been established to popularise the invaluable legacy of the Roerich family and strengthen the Indo-Russian cultural bonds. A week-long handicrafts exhibition was also opened in which dolls, traditional jewellery, shawls and oil paintings of Russia have been displayed.

Police band competition opened

NEW DELHI FEB. 18. The four-day-long sixth All India Police Band Competition will be organised by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Capital from February 22. This is the third time that CRPF is hosting such competition.

While the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, will be inaugurating the competition, the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, will be the chief guest in the closing function. Both the functions would be held at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium while rest of the competition would be held at CRPF's campus on Jharoda Kalan here.

Annual sports show

NEW DELHI FEB. 18. The junior students of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, performed yoga and physical training exercises at the Annual Sports Show at their premises in the Capital today.

Over 1, 500 children -- many of them tiny tots -- gave a three-hour long display to reinforce the point that human beings need to protect and preserve their physique.

Film actor-turned-MP Govinda was the star attraction on the occasion. The Delhi Public School Chairman, Narendra Kumar and Principal of the school, M.I. Hussain, were also present on the occasion.

SBI core banking branch

NEW DELHI FEB. 18. The Delhi Circle of the State Bank of India inaugurated its 100th branch on core banking in the Capital this past Wednesday.

The Chief General Manager of Delhi Circle, B.K. Gairola, indicated that around 675 branches of the State Bank of India are presently working on core banking. While the Delhi Circle would have 175 branches on core banking by the end of this year, the bank as a whole will have around 1,000 branches.

New NR PRO takes over

NEW DELHI FEB. 18. Rajiv Saxena today took over as the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railways. An Indian Railway Traffic Service officer of 1986 batch, Mr. Saxena has held several important positions in Northern and North-Frontier Railways. Graduating from The Hindu College, he pursued his education from the Delhi School of Economics and later acquired his Masters in management from Management Development Institute.
