S-I hangs self

NEW DELHI FEB. 18. A 32-year-old Sub-Inspector of the Delhi Traffic Police allegedly hanged himself to death at his Hari Nagar residence in West Delhi on Thursday night. The Police Commissioner, K.K. Paul, has ordered a vigilance enquiry into the incident following allegations by the wife of the deceased that he committed suicide due to harassment by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

According to Kavita, wife of Mahesh Kumar Yadav, she found him hanging from the ceiling fan around 6-30 a.m. today. Kavita called up the Police Control Room (PCR) and informed them about the incident. She later told the police that Mahesh, who was deployed at the Defence Colony circle in South Delhi, was suffering from depression for the past few days as he was being humiliated by his superior regularly. In her statement, she alleged that the ACP used to demand Rs. 2,000 from Mahesh every day.

For their part, the district police said they were yet to find out whether it was a case of suicide, as the deceased had a head injury and no suicide note was recovered from the spot. "A medical examination would determine if the injury is ante-mortem or post-mortem, on the basis of which we will take further action," said a police officer, adding that the enquiry into the allegations made by Mahesh's wife was on.
