Governor puts merit above quota

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB. 20. The Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, has raised a question about how long reservations to weaker sections can be continued and urged people to struggle for recognition of merit.

Participating in the 179th birth anniversary celebrations of the social reformer, Jyoti Rao Phule, here on Sunday, Mr. Shinde referred to his own case as a boy peon in a Sessions Court at Solapur. Had he felt shy about his work profile and withdrawn, he would not have reached this position, he said. He paid glowing tributes to Phule.

The APCC president, K. Kesava Rao, and the Special Representative of the State Government at Delhi, Mallu Ravi, also addressed the gathering. The Congress MP, Girish Sanghi, lyricist, S. Ashok Teja, and entrepreneur, Marenna, were felicitated on the occasion.
