HYDERABAD, FEB. 20. S.A. Swaminathan, a senior State panel umpire of the HCA and Secretary of the Association of Cricket Umpires of Hyderabad (ACUH), passed away here on Friday night. In a message all the members of the HCA conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Swaminathan was 68 and is survived by two sons and a daughter. Affectionately known as Sam by all who are associated with cricket in Hyderabad, Swaminathan had been actively involved in cricketing activities. He was an official scorer in many Ranji Trophy matches and also a One-Day International. He was on duty even two days before he breathed his last which showed his keenness and love for the game. Swaminathan was also known for his off field services to the cricket association, umpires and his numerous friends. Swaminathan had retired from the Railways in 1992 as a Senior Stores Inspector.
