JCT Mills blanks Churchill

LUDHIANA, FEB. 20. An outstanding performance by striker Sukhwinder saw JCT Mills blank Goan outfit Churchill Brothers 3-0 in the ONGC IX National Football League (NFL) at the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

With today's victory, JCT Mills took its tally to 11, while Churchill has five points.

Sukhwinder was at his best today as his runs down the flanks upset the Churchill defence on several occasions. The home team drew first blood in the 37th minute when Harpreet latched onto a pass from Sukhwinder from the left flank and beat a diving Churchill Brothers custodian.

Buoyed by Harpreet's goal, JCT Mills mounted another attack in the 41st minute and Nigerian striker Julius Irabar Akpele beat the Churchill defence with a scorching shot to make it 2-0. JCT appeared to be a team in a hurry and four minutes later Sukhwinder found the mark to make it 3-0 before the interval.

After the breather, JCT played to a plan mixing attack with defence and frustrated all attempts by Churchill to score. — UNI
