KOCHI, FEB. 20. Paramount Sporting Club, Kochi, jolted State champion Sports Authority of India (Kollam) 2-1 and won Maruti Suzuki Cup all-Kerala hockey tournament at the Maharaja's Stadium here on Sunday evening. Despite losing the Ernakulam District league title to UC College recently, Paramount was in fine nick this evening though the pace was a bit slow. SAI gained the lead in the 24th minute through consistent K. Anish, who had struck a hat-trick yesterday, but Sooraj trigged off a wild celebration in the home camp two minutes later with his equaliser. Rebin scored the match-winner in the 42nd minute. He foxed SAI's junior India goalkeeper P.R. Thejus, who charged out, and banged home. The tournament was organised by the Ernakulam District Hockey Association as part of its golden jubilee celebrations and Paramount's victory was a just reward. Paramount took home Rs. 10,000 while runner-up SAI received Rs. 5,000. The EDHA also honoured some of its former stars, including Olympian Dinesh Naik, State captains Santosh Shenoy, K.K. Ali Sabair, K.I. Damian, Sunil Ematty and officials Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer, L. Vishnudas, Anto Chandy, M. Venugopal, M.J. Jacob, V. Jayakumar, V.B. Safeed, Jamesh Sony Joseph and Vasanth Shenoy at the concluding function. The EDHA President John K. Paul presided over the closing ceremony and the Kerala Sports Council President C. Mohanachandran gave away the prizes.
