KARIMNAGAR, FEB. 27. In another blow to naxalites in the district, two members of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in an encounter with police on the outskirts of Gopalpur in Manthani mandal today. Police parties launched combing operations following information that naxalites were planning to avenge the killing of their comrades in an encounter in the Gadudalagandi forest area of Manthani recently. When the police parties reached the outskirts of Gopalpur, they came under fire from members of the Manthani Naresh LGS dalam. The police returned the fire, killing two naxalites. Four others escaped. The police suspect that two among them sustained serious injuries. Though the identity of the slain naxalites could not be ascertained immediately, it was being speculated that they were Mogili and Vasantha, both dalam members. The police recovered a claymore mine, .303 rifle, six kit bags and other material from the site.
Computer seized
In a related development in Visakhapatnam district, the police on Saturday recovered a computer with Pentium IV processor, two keyboards, one mouse, two speakers, two printers, stabilisers, one power storage unit, four wire bundles, two boxes of floppies and two boxes of compact discs. The police had received information that naxalites were using latest IT tools. The recovery was made in an arms dump at Durgam village in G.K. Veedhi mandal of the Visakhapatnam agency region. "Whatever we have seized is only the tip of the iceberg. Keeping pace with the changing time, they have advanced a lot,'' the DIG of Police, N. Madan Mohan, said. ``We suspect that they may be using PCs to get warfare technology from the ultras based in the North-East and Nepal,'' he told reporters. The police also recovered another arms dump at Mullagedda village of the same mandal where they seized two empty grenades, cooking utensils and kerosene tins.
Explosives recovered
Our Adilabad Correspondent adds: After an exchange of fire with naxalites near Pangidi Madaram village, a special police party recovered explosives and fuse wire from the spot. The police spotted the naxalites on the outskirts of the village in Tiryani mandal in the afternoon and there was an exchange of fire between the two sides for 15 minutes. The naxalites fled the scene leaving behind the explosives and other material.
