KARIMNAGAR, FEB. 27. The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman, Makhan Singh Thakur, has said the Government proposes to open three sports schools in Cuddapah, Karimnagar and Visakhapatnam soon. Mr. Makhan Singh was on Sunday accorded a warm welcome on his maiden visit to his native district after assuming charge as SAAP chairman. He visited the Ambedkar stadium and inspected the developmental works of the indoor stadium, swimming pool and sports hostel complex buildings. Talking to newsmen, he said that the Government was also planning to revive the Chief Minister's Cup sports tournaments to promote sports in the rural areas.
CM's Cup tournaments
He said efforts were on to conduct the CM's Cup tournaments in 14 events in the month of April. He also said that the Government was planning to open mini-stadiums in all mandals and also planning to impart special coaching to the rural sportspersons. With regard to Karimnagar district, he said that he would strive to open sports academies for athletics, hockey and kho-kho. Later, he would also strive to open academies for football and volleyball. Efforts were on to organise a State-level sports meeting in Mahadevpur area of the district. The DCC president and Manthani legislator, D. Sridhar, the DCC spokesperson, A. Bhaskar Reddy, the DSDO, J. Saraiah, and others were present.
