Congress questions TDP's turnaround

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB. 27. The Congress Legislature Party has questioned the turnaround made by the Telugu Desam Party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, that his party would not insist on continuation of the Assembly debate on the murder of the TDP MLA, Paritala Ravi.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, CLP members -- Dronamraju Satyanarayana, Gade Venkat Reddy, Vatti Vasant Kumar, T. Venkat Rao and K. Murali -- alleged that Mr. Naidu decided to back out fearing that the alleged complicity of his party men would be exposed during the CBI inquiry.

Mr. Satyanarayana criticised Mr. Naidu for repeatedly accusing the Chief Minister and others of being involved in the murder of the TDP MLA.

Mr. Venkat Reddy alleged that the FIR was `tutored'.

He wondered why senior TDP leaders, who were present at the scene of the offence, failed to lodge a complaint. He asked why a relative of the slain MLA lodged a complaint after several hours.

"The complaint was tutored by TDP leaders in Hyderabad and accordingly names of the Chief Minister's son and others were included," he alleged.

Mr. Vasant Kumar said that it was left to the TDP chief to decide whether he wanted the debate on the murder to be taken to its logical conclusion.

The CLP was firm on denial of ticket to factionists to contest elections. A beginning could be made with Penukonda constituency represented by Ravi, he said, adding whether the TDP would support the CLP move.
