Industrial corridor hinges on gas availability: YSR
By Our Correspondent
KAKINADA,
FEB. 27.
The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said development of the 180-km coastline between the port cities of Kakinada and Visakhpatnam as an industrial corridor is not possible overnight. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Dr. Reddy said industrial development of the region depended upon the availability of gas. "The operations of Reliance proved fruitful as they struck gas in abundance off the Kakinada coast. But, commercial production of gas will take some time. Soon, several-gas based industrial units will come up paving the way for the industrial corridor," he added.
On the development of both ports, he said the Government was committed to protecting the anchorage port and would go by the provisions of the agreement on deep-water port operations.
Liquor and power
He countered suggestions that Government had deviated from its policy of reviewing power purchase agreements of gas-based power units and also on price fixing of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL). Dr. Reddy said a judicial committee was constituted to go into the IMFL pricing. He said they would order, if necessary, a CB-CID enquiry into power purchase agreements of other power plants also on the lines of Spectrum Power Limited.
