By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
FEB. 27.
The fourth national conference of the All-India Andhra Bank Award Employees Union (AIABAEU) on Sunday saw employees urging action to recover bad debts and treat wilful default of loans as a criminal offence.
Slogans prominently displayed and repeated at regular intervals included those calling for action against non-performing assets, opposing merger of public sector banks and foreign direct investment and reducing Government capital in public sector banks.
Rally in Delhi
Inaugurating the two-day conference, C.H. Venkatachalam, general secretary, All-India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said the proposed rally in New Delhi on March 11 would be followed by a strike on March 22 to focus attention on their demands. He said there was need to fight forces that were trying to change the direction of the struggle of the bank employees to their just demands.
The CMD, Andhra Bank, T.S. Narayanasami said banking was at a crucial juncture with mergers and consolidations and unions today had a pro-active role to play and act as instruments of change.
