`Attention diversion' gang strikes

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB. 27. The `attention diversion' gang struck again relieving two elderly women of their jewellery at Gopalapuram and S.R. Nagar on Saturday.

Two unidentified persons, in their mid-thirties, told R. Vasantha (67) of Regimentalbazar, who was returning home from morning walk, that a murder was committed near a local school. They warned her against walking around with jewellery.

Even as the worried woman was wondering what to do, the duo advised her to remove the gold ornaments she wore. The duo packed the woman's jewellery weighing 10 tolas and tied it to one end of her sari. The woman went home and opened it only to find a couple of stones inside, the Gopalapuram police said.

Another woman, Ch. Satyavathi (67), who was returning to her home from temple, was relieved of her 4.8 tolas chain in a similar fashion.
