Fake currency racket busted

The Narayanguda police on Saturday arrested a person, K. Prasad, on the charge of attempting to cheat prospective clients in the name of supplying fake currency notes. Prasad and two of his accomplices were staying at Taj Mahal Hotel when a police party raided. While Prasad was caught, the other two manage to escape.

During interrogation, Prasad admitted to the police that he and his accomplices were cheating clients after luring them with supply of fake currency. "They keep white paper bundles, cut to the size of currency notes in a box, and keep genuine notes on the top and below. This way, they pass on white papers as currency notes to clients," the police said.

Pedestrian robbed

Three unidentified persons allegedly threw mud into the eyes of a pedestrian and took away Rs. 1,800, a mobile and three credit cards from him after beating him up at Panjaugtta on Saturday. The victim, Pavan Pochu of Nagarjunanagar, was going from Panjagutta to Ameerpet on foot when the trio rounded him up around 2 a.m. They forcibly took the property and ran away, the Panjagutta police said.

3 robbed of gold chains

Chain snatchers struck at three places in the city on Saturday. Mohini Jain (45) of South Lalaguda lost his two-tola gold chain when an unidentified boy snatched it away. Mr. Jain was walking on the road around 8 p.m. when the boy came from behind, pulled the chain and ran away, the Lalaguda police said.

Two motorcycle-borne youngsters snatched away the `mangalsuthra' of a housewife, T. Punyawati (40), near Sai Baba temple under Golconda police station area.

The victim was coming to her Marvathinagar house in Shaikpet when the snatcher struck.

In another case, a housewife, T. Laxmi Rajyam, who came out for shopping along with her daughter, lost her two-tola chain after two scooter-borne persons snatched it at Malakpet.
