Verdict reserved on Arkavathy Layout

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, MARCH 10. The Karnataka High Court on Thursday reserved orders on the petitions by residents of Amrutahalli, Yelahanka, Hebbal and surrounding villages challenging the formation of the Arkavathy Layout.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had proposed the Arkavathy Layout encompassing several villages in Bangalore North. The acquisition of lands by the BDA for the layout was challenged both by the landowners and house-owners.

The petitioners said the BDA had acquired their lands without conducting a proper survey. Besides, there was disparity between the preliminary and final notification. The landowners feared that the compensation for their lands, taken over by the BDA would be meagre.

The BDA said compensation would be paid as per rules and the landowners need not fear. They would be paid a fair price.

The BDA defended the acquisition and said the layout had been conceived as per law. It said many of the buildings had come up after the lands were notified.

The Advocate-General, B.T. Parthasarthy, who appeared for the Government, also defended the acquisition.

Justice V. Gopala Gowda reserved orders on the petition.
