MANGALORE, MARCH 10. The Communist Party of India (CPI) will not remain a mute spectator if the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government did not adhere to the common minimum programme (CMP), D. Raja, secretary, national executive of the CPI, said here today. Mr. Raja was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 19th State meet of the party delegates. He said the CPI will fight it within and without Parliament if the UPA Government deviated from the CMP. "Our support cannot be taken for granted," he said. He alleged that the last National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government had appointed Governors from political angle. Now, the Congress is doing the same. He termed the recent nomination of Governors as "political appointment". ``Appointment of Governors must be reviewed as per the Sarkaria Commission recommendations,'' he said. Opposing the amendments proposed to the Patent Act, Mr. Raja said these amendments will go against the interests of farmers. Farmers are leading a miserable life. They are not getting remunerative price for their produce. Banks, on the other hand, are charging higher interest on agricultural in the country". The NDA Government, which joined hands with Sangha Pariwar, communalised education in the country, he alleged. There is a need for the CPI and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) to work together to fight the communal forces. People should not think that socialism is loosing ground because of the fall of Soviet Union. China, Cuba, Vietnam, Korea and some other countries are marching forward with socialism.
