No more gifting of exotic birds
By Our Staff Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 18.
Visiting foreign dignitaries will no longer be gifted exotic Indian birds and animals as has been the tradition. This decision was taken at a meeting of the National Board for Wildlife chaired by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, here yesterday. However, there will be no bar on accepting birds and animals as gifts from other countries. This is to prevent exotic birds and rare species of animals from becoming extinct. The ban will not apply to the gifting of birds and animals within the country for religious purposes.
