MUMBAI, MARCH 18 . Allegations and threats flew freely along with points of order amid several adjournments in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as it discussed the Justice P.B. Sawant Commission report today. The report had found two Ministers, one ex-Minister and a social activist guilty of corruption and maladministration. The Ministers, Suresh Jain and Nawab Malik, who resigned from the Cabinet and also the ex-Minister, Padamsinh Patil, denied that they had done anything wrong and maintained that the commission's findings were based on assumptions and not evidence. There was chaos as Mr. Malik alleged corruption on the part of top leaders of the Shiv Sena and the BJP and several opposition legislators. This led to several adjournments and sloganeering in the House. The Leader of the Opposition, Narayan Rane, threatened to block the proceedings of the house and dig out the "history of the NCP leader, Sharad Pawar." But soon a compromise was reached and objectionable references were expunged from the record.
