NEW DELHI, MARCH 26. Barring stray incidents, the spring festival of Holi was heralded with a riot of colours today as people across the country smeared "gulal" on each other, gorged on sweets and sang and danced to folk tunes . Trouble broke out in Ahore in Rajasthan's Jalore district over a ban imposed on the popular "bhata maar Holi" (stone-thowing Holi) following a court order last year. Curfew was clamped in Sojat in Pali district after shops were set ablaze. Two revellers were killed and about a 100 persons rushed to hosptial in Jaipur in Holi-related mishaps. The two died on the spot when their motorcycle was hit by a milk tanker. Curfew was imposed in Utraula town of Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district following clashes during a Holi procession this morning. Some 20 shops were set ablaze and several people injured, the police said. In Chandigarh, the police arrested 12 youths, including the former Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh's grandson, Harkirat Singh, for allegedly throwing eggs at girls and passersby in the Panjab University campus yesterday. In Delhi, police arrested 37 persons on Holi eve for eve-teasing and nine others on charges of bootlegging. PTI
