Policeman among 10 killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, MARCH 26. Two militants and a policeman were among 10 killed and a Congress worker injured in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir , a police spokesman said today. The security forces arrested four persons.

The spokesman said militants raided Hassote village in the Mahore area of Udhampur district this morning and fired at the family of a surrendered militant Mohammad Shabir Gujjar. Gujjar's mother Gugy Begum, wife Shamshad Begum, and his infant daughter were killed. The ultras set ablaze the house, causing damage to it. Before fleeing, the militants also killed one Mir Qasim in his house at nearby Plani.

The spokesman said an unidentified militant and a policeman were killed in a nearly three-hour-long gun battle at Yamrach in the Kulgam area of Anantnag district. The encounter broke out when a joint search party came under fire from militants hiding in the village.

The security forces killed a militant in another encounter at Langanbal in Anantnag last night. An AK rifle and three grenades were recovered.

Militant found hanging

The police found the body of a former militant, Abdul Rashid alias Ummar Bin Khidab, hanging from a tree at Bhangai in Rajouri district yesterday, official sources said. Rashid was released from the Rajouri jail a fortnight ago and was strangulated to death by suspected militants, they said.

Militants killed one Mohammad Hussain at Manwa-Dangal in the Dharamsal area of Rajouri by slitting his throat after dragging him out of his house today. The throat-slit body of Ghulam Rasool Bhat was recovered from a field at Gulshanpora in Pulwama district today. Bhat was kidnapped by militants from his house at nearby Nadir village late last night.

Militants shot at a Congress worker, Abdul Rehman Ahanger, outside his house at Kapran in Anantnag district this morning, the spokesman said.— PTI
