Flowers trigger famine alert

GUWAHATI, APRIL 8. The East Kameng district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has taken a number of preventive measures to check the outbreak of famine in the villages of East Kameng district following an outbreak of flowering in bamboo trees in some parts of the district.

The East Kameng Deputy Commissioner, Shri Bidol Tayeng, has directed all administrative officers of the district to submit a detailed report by April10 with details of such incidents in the past.

In 1959, flowering of bamboo trees in Mizoram triggered a famine.
