Modi to meet RSS chief

NEW DELHI, APRIL 8. The Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, Narendra Modi and Babulal Gaur, are going to Nagpur tomorrow and meet the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief, K. S. Sudarshan, triggering speculation that the RSS was trying to contain dissidence in the BJP's State units.

Mr. Modi and Mr. Gaur would be visiting a plant where plastic would be converted into petrol, the RSS spokesman, Ram Madhav, said. The unit is scheduled to be inaugurated by Mr. Sudarshan. He scotched speculation that the RSS had summoned Mr. Modi and Mr. Gaur to discuss dissidence.

Mr. Madhav said Mr. Sudarshan wanted the Chief Ministers to see the plant and establish similar units in their States if they found it beneficial.

He also denied reports in a the media that Mr. Modi's rival, Keshubhai Patel, and the Jharkhand Chief Minister, Arjun Munda, have also been "summoned" by Mr. Sudarshan.
