Funds sanctioned
PUDUKOTTAI: The State Government has sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs. 36.68 lakhs to the district for undertaking development works following its achievement in the small savings collection during the year 2002-03. In a press release issued here on Friday, the Collector, R. Thiagarajan, said that another Rs. 22.51 lakhs has been earmarked for launching development works in municipalities and all panchayat unions.
Power shutdown
PUDUKOTTAI: There will be no power supply in the following areas from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 19 owing to maintenance works at the Pudukottai Town II feeder: Rajagopalapuram, Charles Nagar, Periyar Nagar, New bus stand, Santhanathapuram, Kalif Nagar, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar and Maraimalai Nagar.
AIR special programme

TIRUCHI: The water level in the Mettur dam stood at 53.54 feet today. The inflow was 1377 cusecs and the discharge 100 cusecs.

Woman snatches chain, swallows it
She swallowed it to evade arrest. According to the police, Selvarani and her accomplice, Kumudhini (19) of Velankanni, snatched the chain. But when a policeman came towards them, she swallowed it. Selvarani was taken to a hospital, where a scan report confirmed that the chain was in her stomach.
Wires stolen
The police said a case was registered based on complaints from TNEB officials that 2,775 meters of aluminium wires in toto were missing. - Staff Reporter
