BANGALORE: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Panchayat Raj Mani Shankar Aiyar has said that a hike in the prices of petroleum products is inevitable. He told presspersons here on Sunday that discussions were held with the alliance partners of the United Progressive Alliance and there would be further talks with the Left parties on Monday. The matter would also come up for discussion at the next meeting of the Union Cabinet.
Cauvery issue
On the Cauvery dispute, he said, Tamil Nadu, which was unhappy with the manner in which Karnataka had complied with the interim award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, was hopeful of a favourable final award expected shortly. Karnataka had given water to Tamil Nadu when the latter did not require it and had turned down the plea for release of water when Tamil Nadu needed it the most. This was unfair, he said.
