COIMBATORE: ITC launched a new initiative called `Partnering for global success' in Tirupur on Saturday targeting the textile exports industry. Under this programme, the ITC Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division (PSPD) will work closely with the garment exporters, printers, buying houses and printing technology specialists in Tirupur to create customised solutions for garment accessories in line with the specifications of global brands. The Head, Marketing, ITC PSPD, K. I. Vishwanathan, told presspersons here on Saturday that the textile industry used paperboards for various purposes such as tags, cartons, photocards and inserts. Indian textile exports currently consumed about 3,600 tonnes of value-added paper products annually. With a quantum jump expected in textile exports from the country, consumption would also rise sharply. The new initiative by ITC aimed to work closely with the industry to meet this requirement. In Tirupur, the ITC PSPD had set up a dedicated cell to work closely with exporters. They would constantly interact with the end users of the paperboards (garment exporters) and the printers to provide customised solutions. It was already working with about 300 printers and would expand this with the initiative. It would build adequate infrastructure in the town so that all the products were available to the customers when they required. ITC PSPD's current monthly business in Tirupur was nearly 300 tonnes and this was expected to grow to 750-1,000 tonnes a month in three or four years. The initiative would also be introduced in other centres such as Bangalore, Ludhiana and Delhi, he added.
