Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's proposal to ban the sale of soft drinks on trains and at stations, and substitute them with desi drinks, is another example of the manner in which decisions are taken by our political leaders, with scant regard for people's opinion. Do a billion people have to accept decisions taken more out of personal preference than a genuine interest in the welfare of the citizens?
Chennai
Undoubtedly, traditional drinks such as lassi are cheaper and refreshing. But the ultimate choice should lie with an individual. The Government should first create awareness on the ill-effects of soft drinks. Traditional drinks should then be made available along with the soft drinks, letting the consumers choose for themselves.
