Prakash in quarterfinals

NEW DELHI: Prakash Amritraj reached the quarterfinals of the $50,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Busan with a 6-1, 7-6(2) victory over the seventh-seeded Cecil Mamiit of the U.S. on Wednesday.

In the $25,000 ITF women's tournament in Phuket, Megha Vakharia beat seventh-seeded Sarah Borwell of Britain 7-5, 6-2 to make the quarterfinals.

Isha Lakhani, however, went down 4-6, 6-7(6) to Anette Kolb of Germany in the pre-quarterfinals.

In doubles, Rushmi Chakravarthi and Wilawan Choptang of Thailand beat Penporn Chantawannop and Porntip Mulsap of Thailand 6-1, 6-1 to make the quarterfinals.

In the Astrid Bowl ITF junior tennis tournament in Belgium, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan beat Dylan Arnould of the U.S. 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round. Jeevan and Jurgens Strydom of Namibia, however, lost 6-7(2), 3-6 to Maxime Authom and Frederic de Fays of Belgium in the doubles first round.

The other Indian in the fray, Vivek Shokeen lost 2-6, 5-7 to Amas Fattar of Morocco in the singles second round.
