Sehwag, Manhas guide ONGC to victory

NEW DELHI: Virender Sehwag (96) and his 138-run fourth-wicket stand with Mithun Manhas (72) helped Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) beat Karma XI by 41 runs on way to the semifinals of the Lala Raghubir Singh hot weather cricket tournament at the Modern School ground, Barakhamba Road, here on Wednesday.

Put in, ONGC lost opener Gautam Gambhir for nought but went on to raise 314 for nine the allotted 40 overs mainly due to Sehwag's 65-ball knock studded with three 6s and eleven 4s. Later, Mohammad Saif produced a 19-ball 56 including five 6s and an equal number of boundaries. For Karma XI, medium pacer Deepak Rai took five for 52.

When Karma XI began their chase, Sawez Khan (84, seven 6s, five 4s) top-scored. Sehwag, left-arm spinner Rahul Sanghvi and medium pacers Saif and Feroz Ghayas took two wickets each.

The scores:

ONGC 314 for nine wickets in 40 overs (Virender Sehwag 96, Mithun Manhas 72, Mohammad Saif 56, Amit Sharma 41, Deepak Rai five for 52) beat Karma XI 273 in 38.5 overs (Sawez Khan 84, Kuldeep Rawat 39).
