NEW DELHI: Uma Bharti, suspended from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party last November, was on Saturday reinstated in the national executive committee and given responsibility as `sah-prabhari' in Bihar along with `prabhari' Arun Jaitley. Crucial elections are now due in the State. Although one post of general secretary was still vacant, no decision had as yet been taken on giving that back to her, some senior leaders said. [She was general secretary when she fell foul of the high command] For some time now Ms. Bharti had been saying that she did not need or want any position but wanted to be given work so that she could serve the party. Since Mr. Jaitley is already the man in charge of the State during the elections, Ms. Bharti will have to work in tandem with him. Ms. Bharti was suspended for openly defying president L.K. Advani and walking out of a televised meeting after challenging him to take disciplinary action against her. She alleged at that time that some "Rajya Sabha MPs" routinely planted stories against her in the media through off-the-record briefings.
