Paswan rules out closure of MFL

Special Correspondent

COIMBATORE: The Union Minister for Steel, Chemicals and Fertilisers, Ram Vilas Paswan, has ruled out "any disinvestment, any voluntary retirement scheme or closing down of any unit" under the control of his Ministry, including the rumoured disinvestment in the Salem Steel Plant. On the contrary, "we are planning to invest Rs. 500-600 crore there for putting up a smelting plant," he said.

Talking to presspersons here on Monday, he said the steel sector was on a high growth trajectory and the public sector steel plants profit had shot up to Rs. 6,000 crore.

He also announced that Madras Fertilisers would not be closed down. He had planned to implement some package or other for its rehabilitation.
