HYDERABAD: The Indian Hockey Federation would seek the services of former Dutch Olympian and goalkeeper Frank Lester to train the junior World Cup squad from June 29. Speaking to The Hindu on Thursday, K. Jyothikumaran, Secretary-General of the IHF, said that they sought the services of Lester, as he was the one who had trained Adrian d'Souza. "If he suggests any other name to train in short-corner conversions, we will discuss that also," he said. It has been confirmed that Adrian will lead the Indian team in the Junior World Cup. However, the announcement of the Indian squad for the Junior World Cup hockey championship to be held in Rotterdam from June 29 has been deferred after two-day deliberations by the five-member selection committee, due to administrative reasons. The panel included Messrs. K. Jyothikumaran, former Olympians Ajitpal Singh, N. Mukesh Kumar, Maj. Subramanian, SAI coach N. Madhukaran and HHA official V. Ramachander Rao. The IHF secretary stated that an 18-member Indian team will be leaving for Spain to play in a four-nation tournament featuring Netherlands, Chile and Spain, as part of the preparations for the Junior World Cup where India will try to defend its title.
